1. Unexpected Colour Palettes

According to the Pantone Colour Institute, designers in the UK are introducing more unusual colours and colour stories into their Spring 2018 collections.  With 12 call out shades and 4 seasonal classics, Pantone’s Spring 2018  Colour Palette is ideal for more unique and dramatic colour mixing.

 2. GDPR Compliance

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years.  GDPR is designed to revise the collection, use and retention of personal data.   The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has produced a handy 12 Steps to Take Now guide in order to help marketing departments meet the 25 May 2018 deadline.

3. Direct Mail Resurgence

Under GDPR “You won’t need consent for postal marketing, but you will need consent for some calls and for texts and emails under PECR”, says the ICO.  With mail having less regulatory restrictions than other channels, we expect direct mail to grow in 2018.  Royal Mail’s GDPR Opportunity with Mail lists12 ways mail could help your organisation thrive in a GDPR world.

Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018

The Pantone Colour Institute has announced that their colour of the year for 2018 is Ultra Violet (Pantone 18-3838).

Every year the institute chooses a symbolic colour, which serves as a snapshot of what they see taking place in our global culture- an expression of a mood and an attitude.

Last year Pantone chose the refreshing Greenery (Pantone 15-0343) for 2017 which symbolised new beginnings. This year the Ultra Violet symbolises experimentation and non-conformity.

How to plan the perfect Christmas Campaign

Now is the perfect time to plan and perfect your Christmas marketing campaign.  Here are our top 10 seasonal marketing tips:

1. Start early
Most printers and direct mail houses are extremely busy in the run up to Christmas, so it’s best to contact your chosen supplier as early as possible to discuss your requirements.

2. Set out what you are hoping to achieve
As with any marketing campaign, clearly identify what you want to achieve.   Set targets and think about how and when you will measure success.

3. Utilise print artwork
For a seamless cross media campaign, ask your designer to send print artwork in a jpeg  format, which you can easily post onto websites, emails and social media platforms.

Following London Fashion Week, the Pantone Colour Institute has released its Fashion Colour Trend Report for Spring 2018.

With colour on the catwalk a key indicator of the colour stories we can expect to see showing up across all areas of design, Pantone’s report is a key guide to the season’s most important colour trends.

The Spring 2018 Colour Palette

“The Spring 2018 palette encourages a sense of fun and playful release. With an air of complexity and distinctiveness, we find ourselves in a sanctuary of colour that is ideal for some more unique and dramatic colour mixing.” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone colour Institute.

Top 10 Autumn 2018 Colours

Every season the team at the Pantone Color Institute evaluates the colors shown by fashion designers in their collections at New York Fashion Week.

This information is then used to create The PANTONE Fashion Color Report where they highlight the top 10 colors for men’s and women’s fashion for the upcoming season.

Autumn/ Winter 2017/18 Colour Palette

“Bookended by a dynamic Grenadine red and a tawny Autumn Maple, the color palette for Autumn 2017 leans more to warmth “  says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“While comforting, enveloping colors and ease are crucial to the seasonal feeling, standout shades include a pale pink Ballet Slipper, a refreshing Golden Lime, and a bright Marina blue. These hues add a striking touch when paired with the classic autumnal shades of Navy Peony, Neutral Gray, Butterrum and Tawny Port.”

  • PANTONE 17-1558 Grenadine: A powerful, evocative, dynamic red, Grenadine is a confident and self-assured attention-getter.
  • PANTONE 19-1725 Tawny Port: Taking the Red family to new depths, Tawny Port is elegant, sophisticated, and tasteful.
  • PANTONE 13-2808 Ballet Slipper: Descended from the Red family but with a softer touch, Ballet Slipper is always flattering and reminiscent of the rosy glow of health.
  • PANTONE 16-1341 Butterum: This snug, warming, and toasty shade is evocative of drinking a glass of Butterrum by a roaring fire on a cool autumn evening.
  • PANTONE 19-4029 Navy Peony: A mainstay for the season for both palettes, Navy Peony is a dependable and an anchoring shade. Solid and stable, the hue takes some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral.
  • PANTONE 17-4402 Neutral Gray: The standard bearer of all neutrals, Neutral Gray shares the anchoring role with Navy Peony in this palette. It can be used as an accent or a head-to-toe statement shade.
  • PANTONE 19-4524 Shaded Spruce: This is a green you might see in the forest – sheltering and protective as evergreen trees.
  • PANTONE 16-0543 Golden Lime: Earthy tones with a twist, the golden undertones of Golden Lime makes this yellow-green shade a refreshing complement to fall classics.
